Switch 2 Japan: Region Locks, Language Locks and HORI Controllers
Are Japanese Switch games region free? Nintendo’s Switch 2 Regional Compatibility FAQ says game cards “are not region locked”, while adding that it has not tested every overseas title and recommends software from your console’s region.[1] The original Switch FAQ uses the same wording, so “are Japanese Switch games region locked” and “are Japanese Switch 2 games region locked” both get a no. In practice a cartridge from Tokyo boots on a US or EU console. Do Japanese Switch games have English? That depends on the game, not the console: whether a title can be played in English is printed on the back of the box and in the Software Information menu, and it is not language locked beyond that list. Whether a Japanese copy is cheaper than the same game at home depends on the title and the exchange rate, so compare before importing.
