As of September 2026, the interesting thing about the Zelda 40th Anniversary hardware is not the Triforce on the dock — it is that Nintendo has, for the first time, made a special-edition console that is only the Japan-locked variant. Importers who reflexively pre-order the console are buying a Japanese-language machine that will not link to their existing account. The accessories are a different story, and they are where the value is.

The Zelda 40th Anniversary Lineup: Official Prices and Dates
Nintendo announced the set on 8 September 2026. Three hardware items release on 29 October; the Ocarina of Time remake follows on 5 November and is not included with any of them[1][4].

The console’s product name in Japan literally includes “日本語・国内専用” (Japanese-language, domestic only), and Nintendo’s English release repeats it: “The Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition sold in Japan will only be available as the Nintendo Switch 2 Japanese-Language System (Japan only).”[1]
What “Japan Only” Actually Restricts
Since June 2025 Nintendo has sold two Switch 2 models in Japan. The one on every retail shelf is the Japanese-Language System; the multi-language model costs ¥10,000 more and is sold only through the Nintendo Store[2]. The Zelda edition exists only in the first form.

In practice: the system menu cannot be switched to English, a US, UK or EU Nintendo Account cannot be linked, and without a linked account you lose online play, GameChat and the eShop[2]. Nintendo’s support page adds that overseas-released package software is outside the operating guarantee on either Japanese model, the AC adapter is 100–240 V with a Japanese Type-A plug, and use abroad voids warranty and repair service[3]. If you already own a Switch 2, none of this matters — buy the accessories.
What You Can Import: Pro Controller, Case, and Ocarina of Time
The Pro Controller and carrying case are accessories with no language or account setting; they pair with any Switch 2. The Japanese Pro Controller SKU is the one with the display stand included at ¥12,980[1]. Ocarina of Time is a Switch 2 game card — Nintendo’s note above is about foreign cards on Japanese consoles, not Japanese cards on yours — and the Japanese package version ships with early-purchase art cards on Amazon Japan[5].
One honest caveat from Nintendo’s own overseas-use page: the wireless functions of Switch 2 hardware sold in Japan (console, Joy-Con 2, Pro Controller) are listed as compliant in Japan, the United States, and the UK and EU member states; Australia, Canada and Singapore are not on that list[3]. It is a certification statement rather than a technical block, but it is the reason we quote shipping to those countries without recommending the controller for them.

Every listing below is a live Japanese pre-order we read today. Rakuten shops ship on or the day before release; the Amazon Japan listing is a third-party seller bundling an Amazon.co.jp-limited Switch 2 logo sticker[5]; the console listings are the Japan-only system whatever the title says.

What the Pro Controller Costs Delivered

How to Pre-Order Zelda 40th Anniversary Items From Japan: Step by Step
- Step 1 — Decide what you actually need. Existing Switch 2 owner: controller, case, game. No console yet: buy a multi-language Switch 2 or your local model; the Zelda console is Japan-only.
- Step 2 — Pick the listing. Search “Pro Controller Zelda 40th” on OneMall and compare Rakuten pre-orders (cheapest today at ¥15,300) with the Amazon Japan sticker bundle (¥17,836).
- Step 3 — Place the pre-order through OneMall. Pay item price + fee now; the shop ships to OneMall’s warehouse on 28–29 October.

Will the Japanese Zelda 40th Pro Controller work with my US or European Switch 2?

Can I just set the Zelda console to English?

Is the display stand sold separately in Japan?

Why is the Amazon Japan price higher than Rakuten?
The ¥17,836 Amazon Japan listing is a third-party seller and includes an Amazon.co.jp-limited Switch 2 logo sticker[5]; the ¥15,300 Rakuten shop is closer to MSRP and ships the day before release. Both are pre-orders; neither is Nintendo selling direct.
Does Ocarina of Time on a Japanese game card play in English?
Switch 2 game cards take their language from the console. Nintendo’s product page lists the game at ¥8,980 packaged[4]; check the language list on that page before ordering if English text matters to you, and remember the early-purchase art cards are a Japanese retail bonus.
