TL;DR
The first Legend of Zelda shipped on the Famicom Disk System on 21 February 1986, and Nintendo is running the 40th anniversary from the 8 September 2026 Zelda Direct through 2027[1]. - Ocarina of Time for Switch 2 (5 November): ¥8,980 package / ¥7,980 download[5]. The Japanese package comes with an early-purchase set of five A5 art cards, a paper stand and a sticker[6] — ¥7,755 on Amazon Japan, below MSRP.
- amiibo Young Link and Young Zelda (2027): unlock masks in the game[6]; pre-orders ¥2,709 each on Amazon Japan.
- Nintendo Museum Official Book Vol. 02 (5 November, ¥1,980, museum-only, Japanese or English)[7]. Vol. 01 resells at ¥7,000 on Mercari today, so expect the same for Vol. 02.
- Not importable: the live-action film opens worldwide on 30 April 2027; the concert starts in Tokyo in January 2027 and tours Chicago, London and Melbourne[3].
- Shipping: two amiibo or the game in a 600 g box is US$20.99 by ECMS to the US; the controller plus the game about US$24.55.
Four of Japan’s biggest franchises have anniversaries in 2026 — this is the Zelda entry; the 2026 anniversary roundup covers Tamagotchi 30th and Persona 30th too. Everything below was checked on 17 September 2026 against Nintendo’s own pages and live OneMall listings; nothing is quoted from resellers’ blurbs.
The 40th Anniversary Timeline
Shigeru Miyamoto opened the Direct by dating the series to the 1986 Disk System release and promising activities “from this year into next”[3]. Here is the announced schedule in order.

Every Official Item, With Nintendo’s Prices
Nintendo’s 40th anniversary products page lists exactly eight items[2]. Prices below are the manufacturer’s suggested retail prices from the release and product pages; where Nintendo lists none, the cell says so.

Two things on that list decide the import strategy. The console is the Japanese-Language System, so unless you live in Japan the anniversary hardware worth buying is the controller and the case — the reasoning, the account rules and delivered costs are in the Zelda 40th Switch 2 guide. And the museum book is sold only inside the museum, which is why Vol. 01 sits on Mercari at ¥7,000 against a ¥1,980 cover price.
Six Live Listings Through OneMall (checked 17 September 2026)
Each card links to the listing; prices are what OneMall showed today, in yen and dollars. The Amazon Japan and Rakuten items are pre-orders that ship on release day or the day before; the museum book is a Mercari listing with one copy in stock.
What the Japanese Package Gets You: the Early-Purchase Set
Nintendo’s own topics article spells out the Japanese retail bonus: buyers of the package version receive five A5 art cards using Ocarina of Time and 40th anniversary visuals, a paper stand and an original sticker, while the download version gets a set of digital wallpapers. The set is limited to stock and Nintendo notes it may be sold separately later[6]. On the listings we read, the Amazon Japan package at ¥7,755 names the art card set and sticker in the title and is below the ¥8,980 MSRP; Rakuten shops with the same bonus were at ¥8,079.
The remake itself: Eiji Aonuma’s Direct segment showed redrawn Kokiri Forest and Hyrule Castle Town, a jump button, a hold-to-dash, a free camera, a progress tapestry (“Toki no Kiseki”) that fills in as you advance, full voice in event scenes, and an ocarina you can play by humming into the Switch 2 microphone — or by playing a real ocarina at it[3]. Game cards take their language from the console, so a Japanese card on an overseas Switch 2 runs in your system language.

The pattern: the game is at or under MSRP everywhere (Japanese retailers discount new software), the two amiibo listings are within ¥300 of each other, the controller is about 1.35× MSRP because Rakuten shops that listed it near MSRP sold through, and the console is 1.30× MSRP for a machine most overseas buyers should not order. The museum book is the outlier — Vol. 01 at 3.5× its cover price.
The Parts You Cannot Ship
The film
The live-action The Legend of Zelda opens in cinemas worldwide on 30 April 2027. Miyamoto said the title has no subtitle on purpose and that he and Nintendo’s developers are directly involved; details are promised later[3].
The concert
Koji Kondo introduced a Zelda 40th Anniversary Concert playing music “from the nostalgic titles to the newest”. Japan dates begin in Tokyo in January 2027 and continue to Fukuoka Civic Hall, Sapporo Cultural Arts Theater hitaru, ROHM Theatre Kyoto and K-Arena Yokohama; overseas legs start in Chicago in February, London in April and Melbourne in May[8]. Concert programmes and goods usually reach Mercari within days of each show — search Zelda concert once the tour starts.
Nintendo Museum
From 9 September 2026 for about a year, visitors to the museum in Uji, Kyoto get a Zelda 40th admission pass; a 40th history board in the first exhibition building plays game scenes and music through the Nintendo Today! app; a Master Sword photo spot arrives on 5 November; and the Super Family Restaurant with Link opens this autumn[7]. Tickets are a lottery through a Nintendo Account.
Nintendo Today!
The free smartphone app has distributed a Zelda collection card every day since 9 September, plus an animated calendar of past titles, and will carry film news[1]. It is the one part of the program that needs no shipping.

Quotes from OneMall’s calculator for Los Angeles on 17 September 2026; the US line offers ECMS and DHL only. Shipping is charged on the greater of actual and volumetric weight (L×W×H ÷ 5,000). The first six orders consolidated into one parcel are free (¥100 per order after that), and every order gets 90 days of free storage — which matters here, because the accessories ship on 29 October, the game on 5 November and the amiibo in 2027. Service fees start at ¥200 per order (¥200 fixed on Mercari and Amazon Japan items under ¥7,000, 3% above that capped at ¥300; 3% on Rakuten with a ¥200 minimum).
How to Buy the Zelda 40th Items From Japan
- Step 1 – Decide on the console. If you do not have a Japan-region Nintendo Account, skip it; buy the controller and case instead (why).
- Step 2 – Pre-order the game with the art cards. Choose a listing that names the early-purchase set; the bonus is limited to stock.
- Step 3 – Add the amiibo. They release in 2027; OneMall holds paid pre-orders and the 90-day storage clock only starts when an item arrives at the warehouse.
- Step 4 – Watch Mercari for the museum-only book after 5 November. Search Nintendo Museum Official Book and expect Vol. 02 to start where Vol. 01 sits now.
- Step 5 – Consolidate and ship. The October hardware and November game fit one 1.5 kg parcel; ECMS for price, DHL for speed.
- Step 6 – Expect duties. Game hardware is dutiable in most countries and the US no longer has a de minimis exemption.
FAQ
When exactly is the Zelda 40th anniversary?
21 February 2026 — forty years after the Disk System release. Nintendo scheduled the program from the September 2026 Direct through the 2027 film, concert tour and amiibo[1][3].
Is there a 40th anniversary merchandise line like a poster or badge set?
Not from Nintendo. The official 40th product list is hardware, the game, the amiibo, the ocarina instrument and the museum book[2]. Licensed Zelda posters, badges, mugs and a Heart Container lamp that Rakuten shops file under “40th” are general Nintendo-licensed goods, and all of them were sold out when we checked; search Zelda 40th for restocks.
Does the Japanese Ocarina of Time play in English?
Switch 2 game cards follow the console’s language, and the Direct describes the remake with full voice in event scenes[3]. Check the language list on Nintendo’s product page[5] if a specific language matters to you; the art-card bonus is a Japanese retail extra either way.
What do the amiibo actually do?
Tapping Young Link or Young Zelda in Ocarina of Time gives you a mask — the masks reproduce the characters’ pre-remake N64 faces[6].
Can I get the Nintendo Museum book without going to Kyoto?
Only second-hand. Nintendo sells it inside the museum only, one copy per person, cashless[7]; Vol. 01 copies are on Mercari at ¥7,000 and ¥7,999 today.
What does shipping cost for the game and two amiibo?
Under 600 g: US$20.99 by ECMS (10-20 days) or US$31.59 by DHL (3-7 days) to Los Angeles, plus the service fee on each order.
