TL;DR

Figuring out how to buy Pokemon cards from Japan starts with delivery to your US address. Japanese Pokémon cards reach you through international retailers, US importers, proxy buying or permitted package forwarding. We recommend proxy buying for domestic marketplace listings and checks before international dispatch.

How to Buy Japanese Pokémon Cards from Japan: A US Buyer's Guide

The listing price is one part of the purchase. With a proxy, you also pay a service fee, the seller’s Japanese shipping charge, international shipping and applicable US duties. Optional checks and packing cost extra. Below, we explain the routes, listing checks, six purchase steps and payment stages.

Ways to buy Japanese Pokémon cards from the US

You can buy Japanese Pokémon cards online through four routes. The difference is who buys in Japan and where your shipment starts. Delivery eligibility belongs to the specific listing, so enter your US address before relying on a store’s international shipping option.

Japan-based online stores that ship internationally: You order and pay the retailer directly, and it ships from Japan to your US address. This is a straightforward choice when the store stocks the exact card or box and accepts your destination.

US importers: You buy stock that a US seller has already imported, with delivery starting in the US. This route lets you get Japanese Pokémon cards without arranging an individual export shipment from Japan. It suits you when the item is available domestically and you prefer a domestic purchase.

A proxy buying service such as OneMall: We place the purchase with the Japanese seller, receive it at our Tokyo warehouse and arrange international dispatch. This fits domestic marketplace listings and purchases from several sellers that you want to consolidate. Mercari explains the cross-border purchase model in its overseas transaction guidance.

Package forwarding: You make the purchase yourself and send it to a Japanese forwarding address; the forwarder then ships it overseas. Choose this route when you can complete the store’s checkout yourself and the store accepts forwarding addresses. Store restrictions still apply.

Where to buy inside Japan

You’ll find Japanese Pokémon cards for sale on marketplaces and retailer sites. These are OneMall’s purchase service fees for the platforms below. Sellers set their own item prices.

Purchase platform Purchase service fee Billing unit
Mercari, Suruga-ya, Amazon Japan and Rakuten ¥300 Per item
Yahoo! Auctions and Yahoo! Flea Market 3%; minimum ¥200, maximum ¥300 Per item
Pokémon Center Online via LinkBuy 5%; minimum ¥200, maximum ¥1,000 Per item

We cannot buy lottery, purchase-limited or identity-verified items, card-shop lottery items, or event/shop promotional packs. LinkBuy, our purchase-by-URL service, remains available for regular in-stock Pokémon Center Online items. The store’s delivery guide limits delivery to Japan; its lottery notice describes a separate purchase process.

For Yahoo! Auctions, the 3% fee uses the winning bid including consumption tax. Yahoo! Flea Market also uses the bounded 3% fee. LinkBuy charges 5% of the item price within the table’s limits. Our system calculates the exact fee at checkout.

Sealed, singles or graded?

Buy singles for a specific card, sealed boxes for opening packs, and graded cards for a documented grade. For vintage Japanese Pokémon cards, condition photos and the exact printing matter more than a broad age label. Pick the format before comparing prices.

A loose-pack lot is not a factory-sealed box. A box without shrink wrap is another format again. For example, this loose-pack listing describes packs rather than an intact sealed box. Match the wording to the photos.

The outer packaging in a marketplace box listing helps you identify the format, but shrink wrap alone does not certify the box or its contents. Our guide to spotting fake Pokémon cards explains physical warning signs.

Check the listing before you buy

  • Seller history: Read feedback and past sales, especially comments about item condition and packing.
  • Card identity: Match the Japanese name, set code and card number. For a graded card, compare the pictured label and certificate number with the grading company’s record.
  • Condition photos: Look at the front, back, edges and corners. Creases and whitening deserve particular attention on old Japanese Pokémon cards.
  • Product format: Confirm whether you are buying singles, a graded slab, loose packs, a box without shrink wrap or a factory-sealed box. Confirm the pack count too.
  • Warehouse evidence: Choose the photos or wrong/missing item check you want before international dispatch, while the parcel is still in Japan.

Photos record visible condition; they do not establish a card’s origin. OneMall does not authenticate cards. You can add our photo and item-check services or request Mercari’s separate authentication service on eligible listings; Mercari issues that result. Prices appear in the optional-services section below.

How Japanese booster box prices work

Japanese booster box prices reflect release supply, restocks, demand, condition and product format. A seller’s asking price is an offer, not a completed sale. Compare the same product before deciding whether a lower price means a better purchase.

Match the product code, language, pack count, condition and sealing status. A standard box and a different pack configuration are not interchangeable. The Japanese product catalog identifies releases; a Pokémon Center box page provides product-specific packaging details.

Restocks add supply, while demand for particular cards affects asking prices. Neither tells you what a future buyer will pay. The practical comparison is between like-for-like listings available for your purchase, with the separate service and shipping charges considered.

A pictured box listing gives you packaging details to compare with the description. A separate marketplace listing is useful only as a comparable when its product code, pack count and condition match.

Retailer listings need the same checks. Compare the format descriptions in one retailer listing and another retailer listing before treating them as substitutes. A title alone is not enough.

The packaging pictured for this retailer-listed box does not replace its written condition description. On a different box listing, check the pack count and sealing status again before comparing the asking prices.

For one specific card, a single is the direct purchase. The Japanese Pokémon card value guide helps you compare individual-card prices without treating a box of unknown pulls as the same purchase.

How to buy, step by step

Six steps to buy Japanese Pokemon cards through OneMall and ship them to the US

To buy Pokémon cards from Japan through OneMall, complete the item purchase first and arrange international shipping after warehouse arrival. Buying Japanese Pokémon cards this way gives you a point to request checks before dispatch. Have the listing details and your US delivery address ready.

  1. Find the Japanese listing. Search by Japanese name and card number. AI image search is an optional discovery aid; match its result to the exact card number before continuing.
  2. Review the purchase. Check the seller, condition photos, product format, pack count and purchase eligibility.
  3. Place the order. Pay the item price and applicable purchase service fee using Visa, Mastercard or PayPal.
  4. Wait for warehouse arrival. The seller ships within Japan to our Tokyo warehouse.
  5. Select warehouse options. Choose the relevant photos, item checks, packing and consolidation before dispatch.
  6. Arrange US shipping. After arrival, select an available carrier and pay international shipping. Japan Post EMS (DDP) and ECMS include prepaid duties and taxes at this stage; DHL contacts you about any duties after the parcel arrives.

Packing cards so they arrive flat and dry

Choose reinforcement before your cards leave Japan. Support against bending and protection from moisture matter for loose cards, slabs and boxes. OneMall uses general package reinforcement rather than a dedicated card-packaging service; select suitable packing options before dispatch.

Reinforcement starts at ¥100, with ¥100, ¥200, ¥300 and ¥500 tiers based on package weight. Box replacement adds ¥100, and external padding adds ¥200. We recommend box replacement with padding, or external bubble-wrap reinforcement, plus unboxing photos to document the condition before shipment.

We do not sell separate value insurance. Choose reinforcement and retain shipment evidence. Damage caused in our warehouse is refunded at the item’s purchase price. Compensation for damage in international transit is capped at the international shipping you paid; report it within 24 hours with your order number, photos and a full unboxing video. Record the opening from the outside of the parcel through the contents.

What you pay, and when

When OneMall item fees, packing, international shipping, and import duties are paid

Buying Japanese Pokémon cards through a proxy involves separate payment stages. You pay for the item and purchase service first. After warehouse arrival, you choose international shipping and any optional warehouse services. Keep the charges separate so you can see what each payment covers.

  • Item price: You pay the seller’s listed price or winning bid at purchase.
  • Purchase service fee: You pay the applicable per-item fee at purchase. The platform table above gives the ¥300 flat fee and bounded 3% and 5% rates.
  • Japanese domestic shipping: The charge is whatever the seller requires. We pay it upfront and add it to your international shipping payment.
  • International shipping: You pay after your items arrive at our warehouse. The carrier and chargeable weight determine the charge.
  • Duties and taxes: You pay applicable US import charges. Collection follows the carrier-specific timing in the next section.
  • Payment conversion: Your card issuer or payment provider may charge for currency conversion. Review the payment screen and your provider’s terms before authorizing payment.

Chargeable weight is the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight. Volumetric weight means the space your parcel occupies, expressed as a weight: length × width × height in centimeters ÷ 5000. We measure the box we pack, including its protective material. Combining purchases therefore does not automatically reduce freight.

Published US shipping rates

The published JPY freight brackets below cover ECMS and DHL Express. Checkout shows the exact amount for your parcel.

Chargeable weight ECMS DHL Express
0.5 kg ¥2,709 ¥5,262
1 kg ¥3,208 ¥5,487
2 kg ¥4,278 ¥6,856
3 kg ¥5,326 ¥8,516
5 kg ¥7,120 ¥12,371

OneMall’s published US shipping rates, as of 2026-10-09. ECMS has an estimated average transit time of about 10–20 days; DHL Express, about 3–7 days.

Optional checks, storage and consolidation

Add the services that match the item. A wrong/missing item check costs ¥200; unboxing photos cost ¥500 or ¥700. Items over ¥20,000 receive free exterior photos, and items over ¥30,000 receive free full unboxing photos.

Mercari authentication costs ¥1,700 per card where the listing supports it. We arrange submission; Mercari issues the result. OneMall does not make a separate determination of the card’s origin, so choose an eligible listing when you want that service.

Consolidation combines purchases into an international parcel. The first 6 orders consolidate free, followed by ¥100 for each additional order. Free storage lasts 90 days after arrival and resets to 30 days after consolidation. Plan the timing around the last item you expect at the warehouse.

Optional check, consolidation and packing charges stay separate from the purchase service fee. Reinforcement and its add-ons use the rates in the packing section; our system calculates the exact amount for your selections.

US duties and how they’re collected

You pay applicable US duties and taxes when you buy Pokémon cards from Japan. The US low-value exemption no longer applies. Duties are not charged when you place the item order; the carrier determines when they are collected.

Japan Post EMS (DDP), ECMS and DHL are currently available for US-bound packages. Checkout shows the options available for your parcel. Regular Japan Post EMS and sea mail do not currently ship to the US; choose from the available US services.

With Japan Post EMS (DDP) or ECMS, duties and taxes are calculated and prepaid together with international shipping after your items arrive at our warehouse. Nothing is due on delivery. With DHL, DHL contacts you to pay any duties after the package arrives.

The US Customs and Border Protection notice describes the existing removal of the low-value exemption. Customs clearance can extend the shipping timeline; follow the carrier’s requests for payment or shipment information promptly.

Japanese card names and language differences

Japanese Pokémon cards are easier to find with the Japanese name and exact card number. Charizard is リザードン; the Japanese Pokédex helps match names. Compare the number with the listing photos in the Japanese card database.

未開封 means unopened, while シュリンク付き means shrink-wrapped. Treat both as descriptions to compare with photos. The Japanese Pokémon card rarity guide explains the codes printed beside card numbers.

Japanese and English cards have different backs, and corresponding releases need not contain identical card lists. The English product schedule identifies English releases. Questions about whether Japanese Pokémon cards are worth more require comparing the exact printing and condition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which payment methods can I use?

We accept Visa, Mastercard and PayPal. The item purchase and international shipping are separate payment stages.

Can OneMall buy Pokémon Center lottery items for me?

No. Our purchase exclusions include lotteries, purchase-limited and identity-verified items, card-shop lotteries and event/shop promotional packs. LinkBuy can buy regular in-stock Pokémon Center Online items instead.

Will warehouse photos confirm a card’s identity and condition?

Photos document what arrived and its visible condition; they do not authenticate a card. Choose a wrong/missing item check for an item mismatch, or Mercari’s separate authentication service where the listing supports it. Mercari issues the authentication result.

Can I combine purchases from different sellers?

Yes. We consolidate purchases at our Tokyo warehouse. The first 6 orders consolidate free, then each additional order costs ¥100. Free storage lasts 90 days after arrival and 30 days after consolidation.

What should I do if my parcel arrives damaged?

Report the damage within 24 hours with your order number, photos and a full unboxing video. Compensation for international-transit damage is capped at the international shipping paid; damage caused in our warehouse is refunded at the item price. Keep the parcel and packing materials for the claim.

Can I use Japanese Pokémon cards in US tournaments?

No, not at Play! Pokémon Championship Series events in the US and Canada, which allow English cards only under the tournament handbook. Local event organizers set their own language rules; ask the organizer before building a deck for that event.

Choose direct international shipping when the store accepts your address, or a US importer when the card is already stocked domestically. For Japanese marketplace purchases, we handle buying and warehouse dispatch. You can browse Japanese Pokémon TCG listings on OneMall, match the item to your checklist and select checks before it leaves Japan.
