As of September 2026, the interesting thing about OP-17 is not the chase card — it is the gap between two Japanese listings of the same object. Two and a half weeks after release, Japanese flea-market sellers who bought at allocation are clearing sealed boxes at ¥12,499 while shop channels still ask ¥19,380 for the same shrink-wrapped product. Nothing about the cardboard differs. If you buy from the wrong Japanese channel, you pay the difference for nothing, and most overseas storefronts are reselling the expensive one.
What OP-17 Actually Is
世界最強の戦士 is the seventeenth main booster set for the ONE PIECE Card Game and the set Bandai built around the game’s fourth anniversary.[2] It went on sale in Japan on 22 August 2026 and is themed on the giant island of Elbaph and the Four Emperors.
The commercial details matter more than the flavour text:
- ¥240 per pack, tax included — this set is where the Japanese pack price stepped up from ¥220.[1]
- 6 cards per pack, 24 packs per box, giving a ¥5,760 box at list.[3]
- Bandai ran a launch event window at official shops from 22 August to 6 September 2026, which is part of why early allocation went to stores rather than to general retail.[1]
Because the box list price is public and fixed, every number below can be read as a multiple of ¥5,760. That is the only honest way to judge whether a listing is a deal.
Real Japanese Prices on 7 September 2026
We ran a live cross-marketplace search on OneMall on 7 September 2026 and checked every listing below individually for stock. These are actual Japanese asking prices, not estimates, and they move daily.

Read the third column before the second. A Mercari box at 2.2× list is a set that has cooled from launch mania; a shop box at 3.4× to 5.8× is a shop that has not repriced. Both are on sale in Japan on the same day.

Every card above was confirmed in stock on 7 September 2026. Flea-market listings are single-copy — when one sells, it is gone, so treat the prices as a snapshot of the market level rather than a promise.
Sealed box, loose packs, or singles?
- Buy singles if you want a specific card. The OP17-119 Loki Secret Rare was ¥2,222 and the OP17-118 Rocks D. Xebec Secret Rare started around ¥2,380. A box costs five to nine times that and guarantees neither.
- Buy loose packs if you want the opening experience without the box premium. At ¥3,880 for ten packs you are paying ¥388 a pack against a ¥240 list price — a 62% premium, but far below the 220% premium baked into a shop box.
- Buy a sealed box only from the flea-market side, and only if you want the sealed object. At ¥12,499 you are paying ¥521 a pack.
- Ignore cartons unless you are a dealer. A 12-box carton was listed at ¥299,800 — that is ¥24,983 a box, worse than buying boxes individually.
How to Buy OP-17 From Japan: Step by Step
- Step 1 — Decide sealed or singles. If you are chasing one card, search the card number (“OP17-119”) rather than the set name. Singles ship at almost zero weight.
- Step 2 — Search across marketplaces, not one. Search 世界最強の戦士 on OneMall, which covers Mercari, Rakuten, Amazon Japan, Yahoo Auctions and Rakuma in one query. The 55% spread only shows up if you look at all of them.
- Step 3 — Check the wording of the listing. Japanese sellers distinguish a factory-sealed box from one with the tape cut and from 24 loose packs sold as a box-equivalent. All three appear at similar prices; only the first is genuinely sealed.
- Step 4 — Order through OneMall. First payment covers the item plus the service fee (¥200 minimum; ¥300 cap on Mercari and Amazon).[4]
- Step 5 — Let it sit and consolidate. Storage is free for 90 days. Your first six orders consolidate free; each order beyond six adds ¥100.
- Step 6 — Add unboxing photos if you bought sealed. A basic 3-photo unboxing check confirms the shrink and the tape before the parcel leaves Japan — cheap insurance on a ¥12,000 sealed product.
- Step 7 — Choose shipping and pay the second payment. OneMall bills international shipping on the greater of actual and volumetric weight, so a card parcel almost always bills at actual weight against the carrier rate bands.[5]

We quoted a real 700 g sealed-box parcel (20 × 15 × 10 cm) and a 100 g singles envelope through the OneMall shipping calculator on 7 September 2026.

Two things fall out of that table. First, the US has no Japan Post option in this weight band — ECMS and DHL are the choices, and ECMS at $20.99 is the value pick. Second, a singles envelope costs almost the same as a whole box: the 100 g and 700 g quotes are identical to the UK, Germany, Australia and Canada. If you are ordering singles, order several and ship once, because the first parcel carries nearly all the cost.
Duty and tax, honestly
The United States revoked its US$800 de minimis duty-free exemption on 29 August 2025, so US-bound parcels are dutiable regardless of declared value.[6] Trading cards are low-duty but not zero-duty, and the paperwork applies at any value. EU buyers pay VAT from the first euro. Budget for it rather than being surprised by a courier invoice.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Japanese OP-17 print different from the English one?
Yes. The Japanese set 世界最強の戦士 and the English release are separate print runs with their own card backs, rarity treatments and legality. Japanese cards are legal in Japanese-language events; if you play in English-language tournaments, buy the English set. Collectors generally prefer the Japanese print, which is also the cheaper one at source.
Why is a Rakuten shop 55% more expensive than Mercari for the same box?
Different sellers, different cost bases. Flea-market sellers usually bought at allocation and are clearing inventory as hype cools; shops price against replacement cost and hold. Neither is a scam — but there is no reason to pay the higher one when a proxy can buy either.
How many packs do I need to pull a Secret Rare?
Nobody can tell you honestly, which is exactly why singles are the rational purchase. A box at ¥12,499 buys roughly five copies of the OP17-119 Loki Secret Rare outright at its 7 September 2026 price of ¥2,222.
Can I combine cards with other Japanese orders?
Yes, and you should. OneMall stores items free for 90 days and consolidates your first six orders at no charge, with each additional order adding ¥100. Since the shipping quotes above barely change between 100 g and 700 g, adding a second and third order to the same parcel is close to free.
Will OP-17 boxes keep getting cheaper?
Sealed booster boxes usually drift down for several weeks after launch and then flatten once shop allocation dries up. We are not going to pretend to know the floor. What we can say from the 7 September 2026 data is that the flea-market channel has already repriced and the shop channel has not, so the cheaper number is available today.
