TL;DR

Melonbooks (メロンブックス) is a Japanese doujinshi chain with 32 stores in Japan, one in Taipei and an online shop. Its English FAQ says it doesn’t ship overseas directly, so US fans order through OneMall LinkBuy: paste the item link, pay the price plus a 5% fee (¥200–¥1,000 per item), and our Tokyo warehouse ships it.

  • The catalog covers doujin comics, games, music and goods, plus manga and novels; many listings carry a store bonus (特典).
  • Melonbooks ships only to addresses in Japan; its English FAQ points overseas buyers to external forwarding services.
  • LinkBuy fee: 5% of the item price, min ¥200 / max ¥1,000 per item; pay within 24 hours of approval.
  • Items that need a lottery entry, have purchase limits, or require Japanese identity verification or a members-only account cannot be bought through LinkBuy.
  • US parcels leave our Tokyo warehouse by ECMS or DHL; the buyer pays duties, taxes and clearance fees.

As of October 2026, Melonbooks is courting fans abroad (an English shopping guide, an overseas X account, a Taipei store since December 2025), yet its own English FAQ still says it doesn’t ship overseas directly. Until that changes, a buyer on the Japanese side is the practical route.

Below: what the store sells, its delivery and payment rules, a channel table, a six-step LinkBuy walkthrough with fees, and a quick Melonbooks vs Toranoana comparison.

What Is Melonbooks?

Melonbooks (also written Melon Books) describes itself as a doujin bookstore: a chain selling comics, doujinshi, PC games, DVD/Blu-ray and character goods, with stores from Hokkaido to Kyushu[1]. Its operator, Melonbooks Inc., gives January 23, 1991 as its founding date and says it deals with more than 10,000 doujin circles[1].

In a July 2026 press release, the company said it runs 32 stores across Japan, one in Taiwan and its online shop, under two banners: Melonbooks, aimed at male readers, and Fromage Books, aimed at female readers[2]. Its mascot is Melon-chan (めろんちゃん), and its first store outside Japan opened near Taipei’s Ximen station in December 2025.

What Melonbooks Doujinshi and Goods Can You Buy?

The online shop covers doujin comics, doujin games, doujin music and doujin goods, and the store notes that many doujin and consignment titles are sold with a bonus (特典, tokuten)[3]. Its fair listings add purchase bonuses too: one book fair starting October 11 rewards buying three related new releases together[3].

Beyond doujin titles, the store sells manga, PC games, DVD/Blu-ray and character goods[1], plus novels, e-books and downloads. On October 9, 2026, its featured pages included Melonbooks-exclusive (専売) all-ages digital releases from Comic Market 108, a reminder that some titles are sold only there.

Two details matter from abroad. A Melonbooks bonus belongs to a specific listing, so submit the exact listing (and price) that includes it. And the store also runs online kuji (prize draws): items that need a lottery entry, have purchase limits, or require Japanese identity verification or a members-only account cannot be bought through LinkBuy.

Does Melonbooks Ship Internationally?

No. Melonbooks’ English FAQ answers it directly: “We don’t ship to overseas directly.” Its International Guide explains that purchases are first delivered to an address in Japan and then sent abroad by an external shopping service[4]. Inside Japan, Melonbooks shipping, as listed in the store’s first-timer guide, means home delivery (宅配便) or mail delivery by Japan Post (メール便), plus pickup at more than 30 Melonbooks and Fromage stores or at Lawson (about 13,900 shops) and Ministop (about 2,200) convenience stores across Japan[5].

The store does court fans abroad: its information site links that English guide[3], and its official accounts include an overseas X (Twitter) account, @Melonbooks_EN. Two rules in the guide still trip up US buyers: registration requires SMS verification on a Japanese mobile number (mobile numbers outside Japan cannot be registered), and international orders can be paid only by credit card[4]. For Melonbooks international shipping, the practical fix is a buyer in Japan: LinkBuy orders the item on our account, receives it at our Tokyo warehouse and sends it on by ECMS or DHL.

Payment is the other hurdle. For buyers in Japan, the first-timer guide lists credit cards, convenience-store prepayment, deferred payment and cash on delivery[5]; au PAY joined in July 2026[2], but the English FAQ names only two card brands for the online store, JCB among them, so Visa and Mastercard are not on the list[4]. With LinkBuy, that is not your problem: our team pays the store, and you pay us with Visa, Mastercard or PayPal, settled in USD.

How Do I Buy Melonbooks Doujinshi from the USA?

LinkBuy is our proxy-purchase service for Japanese stores outside our marketplace search, and this store is one of them. Six steps:

  1. Step 1: Find the item. Open the product page on melonbooks.co.jp, copy its link, and note the title, any edition or bonus details, and the tax-inclusive price.
  2. Step 2: Submit it on LinkBuy. Paste the link on the LinkBuy page and enter the item name, specification, tax-inclusive listed price and notes. For several items, add each to your submission list, then send them together from My > Shop Freely > Pending Submission.
  3. Step 3: Wait for review. If the price you entered differs significantly from the store’s, the item fails review; the reason appears under My > Shop Freely > Review Failed.
  4. Step 4: Pay within 24 hours. An SMS confirms approval. Pay the item price plus the service fee (5% of the item price, min ¥200, max ¥1,000 per item) within 24 hours of approval, or the order is cancelled automatically.
  5. Step 5: We buy and receive it. In-stock items usually reach our Tokyo warehouse 3–5 business days after the store ships; dated pre-orders ship within 2–3 business days of release, then take 3–5 business days to reach the warehouse (estimated average). You get 90 days of free storage after arrival (30 days after consolidation).
  6. Step 6: Consolidate and ship. The first 6 orders consolidate free, ¥100 per additional order. Choose ECMS or DHL, then pay the second bill: international shipping plus the domestic shipping Melonbooks charged.

Fee examples: a doujinshi priced under ¥4,000 pays the ¥200 minimum (5% of ¥4,000 is ¥200), and anything over ¥20,000 hits the ¥1,000 cap. Marketplace finds can share the box. Service fees are ¥300 per item on most marketplaces; from ¥200 per item on Yahoo Auctions and LinkBuy. Our LinkBuy guide covers the form in more detail.

About pre-orders: the store can split an order into arrived and not-yet-arrived items[5], and pre-orders with different release dates may ship separately, each with its own domestic shipping fee. After payment, you can cancel only before the seller accepts the order; out-of-stock items or a seller refusal mean cancellation and a full refund, service fee included, within three business days.

Chargeable weight is the larger of actual and volumetric weight (L × W × H ÷ 5000, cm → kg, measured on the outer box our warehouse uses). Reinforcement starts from ¥100 by parcel weight, and unboxing photos cost ¥500 or ¥700 if you want to see covers before they leave Japan. Since August 29, 2025, US-bound parcels of any value go through customs and pay applicable duties, taxes and fees — the $800 de minimis exemption no longer applies[6].

Melonbooks vs Toranoana: Which Doujinshi Shop Fits You?

Toranoana (とらのあな), run by TORANOANA Inc., is another doujin specialist. It sells doujinshi, doujin items, books, hobby goods, CDs, Blu-ray/DVD and games through separate men’s and women’s mail-order sites[7], and its store guide lists one full store in Ikebukuro plus 21 small branch corners across Japan[8].

Neither store is among our integrated marketplaces, so the steps are identical. Because Melonbooks sells some titles as exclusives (専売), compare both shops for the edition and bonus you want. Our Toranoana guide covers that store.

Conclusion

Melonbooks doujinshi are easy to find and awkward to receive abroad, because the store ships only to addresses in Japan. LinkBuy closes that gap for 5% of the item price (min ¥200, max ¥1,000 per item), with storage, consolidation and ECMS or DHL shipping on our side. Found a title in stock or on a dated pre-order? Paste its Melonbooks link on the LinkBuy page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Melonbooks ship to the US?

No. Melonbooks’ English FAQ says it doesn’t ship overseas directly, and orders go to an address in Japan first. With LinkBuy, we buy the item, receive it at our Tokyo warehouse and ship it to you by ECMS or DHL.

Is there a Melonbooks English site?

Melonbooks publishes an English International Guide (shopping guide, getting started and FAQ) and runs an overseas X (Twitter) account, @Melonbooks_EN. Its information and first-timer pages are in Japanese, so a browser translator helps when you copy the item name and price into LinkBuy.

Can I pay Melonbooks with Visa or Mastercard?

Not according to its English FAQ, which names two card brands for online orders, JCB among them; Visa and Mastercard are not on the list. With LinkBuy you don’t pay the store yourself: our team pays it, and you pay us with Visa, Mastercard or PayPal, settled in USD.

How is Melonbooks different from Toranoana?

Both are doujin specialists that split their catalogs by audience. Melonbooks reported 32 stores in Japan plus one in Taipei in July 2026, while Toranoana’s store guide lists one full store in Ikebukuro plus 21 small branch corners; from the US, both go through LinkBuy at the same fee.

Can I combine several Melonbooks orders into one parcel?

Yes. Items wait in our Tokyo warehouse with 90 days of free storage after arrival (30 days after consolidation), and the first 6 orders consolidate free, ¥100 per additional order. Purchases from our integrated marketplaces can join the same box.

What if a Melonbooks doujinshi has sold out?

LinkBuy can only buy what the store still sells; an out-of-stock item is cancelled and refunded in full, service fee included. For second-hand copies, search integrated marketplaces such as Mercari and Suruga-ya, where our AI image search lets you search with a photo of the cover.
