TL;DR

A Japanese squishy is a soft squeeze toy that Japan sells as a “healing” item: scented, slow-rising iBLOOM pieces, PUNIKKO’s silicone tofu, mochi-soft and water-feel (水感) squishies, and character squishies such as Chiikawa Bakery’s. Search in Japanese, compare maker prices with resale prices, and ship everything in one consolidated box.

  • Search スクイーズ (squishy) plus a texture word: 低反発 (slow rising), もちもち (mochi-soft), 水感 (water-feel) or ぷにぷに (springy).
  • iBLOOM ships abroad, but only 25 of its 372 catalog products were available to order on November 4, 2026; PUNIKKO maker TOKOTOYZ takes no overseas orders.
  • In our maker-vs-resale table below, new or unused Mercari and Yahoo Flea Market listings asked more than the maker’s price; used pieces can cost less.
  • Squishies are light but bulky, so the box sets the shipping cost.

As of November 2026, the buzzword on Japanese squishy listings is still 水感, “water feel.” Six of the 18 HOT picks on our squishy landing page use it, and one Rakuten shop calls water-feel squishies a hit on social media. Meanwhile, the scented iBLOOM classics are mostly sold out at the source.

Our team re-read every listing on OneMall’s squishy landing page today and checked each brand’s own site. Below: the words that describe the feel, the brands worth knowing, live yen prices, and how to ship squeeze toys without paying to post air.

What Is a Japanese Squishy? Textures and Listing Words

Squishies aren’t exclusively Japanese, but Japan has a scene of its own. Bloom Co., Ltd., the Tokyo company behind iBLOOM, calls a squishy a “healing” item you touch and enjoy, says squishies caught on with Japanese elementary and junior-high school girls around 2014, and notes they now draw adults too.[1]

Not every piece is made in Japan, either: one water-feel listing we read gives its country of production (生産国) as China. What sets Japanese squishy toys apart is kawaii design plus a precise texture vocabulary, and these words do the work in a search:

Japanese Reading What it means on a listing
スクイーズ sukuīzu squishy or squeeze toy
低反発 tei-hanpatsu low rebound: a slow rising squishy
もちもち mochi-mochi mochi-soft, chewy to squeeze
ぷにぷに puni-puni springy, pokeable
水感 suikan “water feel”: smooth silicone with a watery squish
色柄指定不可 iro-gara shitei fuka you can’t choose the color or pattern
不良対応不可 furyō taiō fuka the shop won’t handle defect claims
新品未開封 shinpin mikaifū new and unopened
訳あり / ひび割れ wake-ari / hibiware flawed / cracks

Slow rising squishy vs. water squishy

A slow rising squishy (or “slow rise” squishy) sinks under your fingers and creeps back. One stress ball on our landing page describes a smooth, soft touch that slowly returns to its original shape however hard you squeeze, a spec it calls “slow rebound” (スローリバウンド). Bloom’s product guideline adds that softness and rise speed vary from piece to piece, even within one design.[2]

A Japanese water squishy (水感) is smooth and jiggly, and most water-feel listings we read name silicone. Four landing-page listings say to squeeze the toy through its sealed bag rather than open it, and the water-feel ones add: keep it away from heat and direct sunlight, and stop if the bag leaks.

What are mochi squishies made of? The listings we read name silicone (シリコン), TPR or TPE. None of the 372 product pages in iBLOOM’s catalog states a material, so we won’t guess for that brand.

Blind boxes and secrets

A Japanese squishy blind box hides the design until you open it. iBLOOM’s Mashuro BOX vol.6 has six scented designs, and its listing says a rare secret version turns up at a rate of 1 in 144; a full set means ordering in multiples of six. Listings marked 色柄指定不可 are a milder version of the same gamble, and so are capsule toys, which our guide to gashapon capsule toys covers.

Japanese Squishy Brands and Characters: iBLOOM, PUNIKKO, Mellojoy, Chiikawa

iBLOOM (アイブルーム)

Bloom builds iBLOOM around an “overwhelmingly soft touch,” “design with a world view” and a “pleasant scent,” and its popular lines are Japanese food squishies (realistic bread and sweets) and original characters.[1] How much is an iBLOOM squishy? At the maker, capsule-toy squishies start at ¥300, surprise eggs that hatch a baby hamster, chick or dinosaur squishy are ¥770, the I Love Peach Prince is ¥1,760 and the 26 cm-wide I Love Peach King is ¥11,000. Across its catalog, 366 of 372 products list a target age of 15 and up.

The catch for US buyers is stock, not shipping. iBLOOM’s online shop ships overseas and waives shipping on US orders of ¥20,000 or more,[3] but only 25 of its 372 products were available to order when we checked. Some pieces are capped at one per person, and the newest Coolish ice-cream squishy is marked for sale in Japan only.[4] Resale fills the gap: “old Bloom” (オールドブルーム) pieces are the vintage end of Mercari, where an unopened eight-piece lot of old Bloom gel keychains asks ¥19,000 and its seller notes scuffs and dirt on the aging film.

In Japan, iBLOOM’s store list names MOOOSH SQUISHY shops in Harajuku (a flagship plus a SoLaDo Takeshita-dori branch), Umeda HEP FIVE in Osaka, Narita Airport, Fukuoka Airport (international terminal) and Centrair, plus Toys”R”Us and Kiddy Land stockists.[5]

PUNIKKO (ぷにっこ) by TOKOTOYZ

PUNIKKO is TOKOTOYZ’s squishy line. Its tofu comes as a silken (絹ごし) or cotton (木綿) block in silicone, lists at ¥1,760 for ages 15 and up; the PUNIKKO shops hand out numbered tickets and cap quantities.[6] TOKOTOYZ says it does not currently accept orders from overseas.[7] That leaves Japanese marketplaces. On Mercari, a Mercari Shops store asks ¥2,260 for a new silken block, and the individual sellers’ tofu listings we re-read ran ¥1,950 to ¥2,999; a new one includes a guidebook, “fluffy powder” and a spare bag.

Mellojoy (メロジョイ)

Search Mellojoy in both scripts. The 11 Mellojoy squishy listings we re-read on Mercari (mostly soufflés, plus a soft-serve cone, a toast stick and a Mini Land blind box) ran ¥4,599 to ¥6,999. We couldn’t confirm the brand’s official website, so we aren’t linking one; six of those sellers call the pieces imported (海外製品). Some Rakuten titles split メロ and ジョイ into separate keywords, so check the photos.

Chiikawa squishies

Chiikawa Bakery’s goods page lists a Chiikawa squishy, a Hachiware and an Usagi at ¥990 each.[8] An unused, bread-like bun shaped like a round-eared face is ¥1,200 on Yahoo Flea Market today, and the six single Chiikawa Bakery squishies we re-read on Mercari ran ¥1,000 to ¥1,450. For other goods, see our guide to where to buy Chiikawa products in Japan.

Maker prices next to listings titled as the same pieces today (sellers’ descriptions, which we don’t verify):

Squishy Maker price (checked Nov. 4, 2026) Japanese marketplace today
iBLOOM Mashuro BOX vol.6, single blind box ¥1,078, sold out at iBLOOM ¥1,070 new at a Rakuten shop; a used single at ¥1,017 on Mercari
iBLOOM thick-cut milk-soaked bread (厚切り牛乳ひたしパン) ¥1,628, sold out, one per person ¥2,380 and ¥2,555 new on Mercari; ¥1,000 used, without box or bag
iBLOOM Coolish vanilla ¥1,078, sold out; newest version Japan-only ¥1,940 and ¥1,988 new on Mercari
PUNIKKO tofu, silken or cotton ¥1,760, no overseas orders ¥2,260 new from a Mercari Shops store; ¥1,950 to ¥2,999 from individual Mercari sellers
Chiikawa Bakery squishy ¥990 ¥1,200 unused on Yahoo Flea Market
Mellojoy official site not confirmed ¥4,599 to ¥6,999 on Mercari

Live Prices: Squishy Toys, Squeeze Toys and Fidgets on Our Landing Page

Here’s a cross-section of the landing page, re-read on November 4, 2026. Dollar figures are the site’s own conversions; prices move, so the item page wins.

Listing Type Where Price ≈ US$
Milk pudding cake squishy in a sealed bag water-feel Rakuten ¥680 4.69
Glitter waffle squeeze, 24 pieces party pack Rakuten ¥1,135 7.83
Bead-filled squeeze ball stress ball Rakuten ¥1,149 7.93
Keyboard-key clicky keychain clicky fidget Rakuten ¥1,280 8.83
“Super BIG” lips manjū bun, set of six, design not selectable random-design squeeze Rakuten ¥1,888 13.03
Joyful Squeeze silicone squishy mochi-soft, water-feel Rakuten ¥2,080 14.35
DecoDeco squishy maker kit, Toys”R”Us exclusive DIY kit Rakuten ¥5,999 41.39
Stainless-steel fidget slider clicky fidget Amazon Japan ¥10,800 74.52

Worth knowing: the lips manjū bun now sells as a set of six for ¥1,888; each bun is about 19 × 18.5 × 8 cm, you can’t choose the designs, and the shop won’t take defect claims. And not all the fidget toys Japan’s marketplaces list are squishy: the keyboard keychain (27 g) clicks like a mechanical keyboard, and the steel slider (about 87 g) slides and spins 360 degrees with a metal click.

Where to Buy Japanese Squishies From the US: Six Steps

Service fees are ¥300 per item on most marketplaces; from ¥200 per item on Yahoo Auctions and LinkBuy. Since the fee is per item, a ¥680 squishy carries the same fee as a ¥2,080 one, and multi-piece packs or Mercari lots, sold as one listing, spread it further.

  1. Step 1: Search in Japanese. Pair スクイーズ with a texture word (低反発, 水感, もちもち) or a brand (アイブルーム, ぷにっこ, メロジョイ) in OneMall’s search, and check Mercari, Rakuten and Yahoo Flea Market separately.
  2. Step 2: Read the condition words. 新品未開封 is new and unopened, 訳あり or ひび割れ flags a flaw, and 色柄指定不可 means no choice of design.
  3. Step 3: Make a Mercari offer. On individual sellers’ listings priced ¥1,001 or more, you can offer down to 80% of the list price, once per item (not on Mercari Shops or discounted items).
  4. Step 4: Add a check. Unboxing photos cost ¥500 or ¥700; a wrong or missing item check on Mercari, Rakuma or Yahoo Flea Market orders costs ¥200.
  5. Step 5: Let it collect in the Tokyo warehouse. In-stock items take 3–5 business days from seller dispatch to the warehouse (estimated average), and Mercari sellers must ship within 7 days. You get 90 days of free storage after arrival (30 days after consolidation).
  6. Step 6: Consolidate and ship. The first 6 orders consolidate free, ¥100 per additional order. US addresses currently ship by ECMS or DHL, with international dispatch 1–3 business days after the international shipping is paid (estimated average). Customs duties, import taxes and clearance fees are paid by the buyer.

For a Japanese web store OneMall doesn’t list, LinkBuy buys from the URL (item price × 5%, ¥200 to ¥1,000), but it can’t buy lottery, purchase-limited or Japanese-ID-required items, so iBLOOM pieces capped at one per person are out.

Ship squeeze toys, not air

Squishies weigh little; boxes don’t. International shipping is priced on chargeable weight: the larger of actual weight and volumetric weight (length × width × height in cm ÷ 5,000, measured on the outer box). A 30 × 20 × 15 cm carton counts as 1.8 kg even if what’s inside weighs far less.

Retail boxes add up: one Mashuro BOX package is about 7.7 × 7 × 7 cm, and sellers differ (one iBLOOM seller on Mercari ships the box unopened, one Mellojoy seller folds it flat). At consolidation, ask for repacking, or keep the original packaging if the box matters. If squishies ride along with other toys, like a Tamagotchi or Game Boy games, consolidate them so one box carries everything.

Conclusion

Pick a Japanese squishy by feel first: 水感 for water-feel silicone, 低反発 for slow rising, もちもち for mochi-soft. For brand pieces, check the maker’s price and whether it ships abroad before paying a resale markup, and keep boxes small, because shipping follows the box.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are squishies Japanese?

Not exclusively, and not every squishy sold in Japan is made there; one listing we read names China as the country of production. But Japan has its own scene: Bloom Co., Ltd. says squishies caught on with Japanese schoolgirls around 2014 and became a new toy genre.[1]

What is squishy in Japanese?

The toy is スクイーズ (sukuīzu), the Japanese rendering of “squeeze.” Listings describe the feel with onomatopoeia: ぷにぷに (puni-puni) for springy, もちもち (mochi-mochi) for mochi-soft and ふわふわ (fuwa-fuwa) for fluffy.

Are iBLOOM squishies safe?

Bloom says SGS chemical analysis confirmed its squishies comply with Japanese, European (EN 71) and US (ASTM) standards, and it cannot vouch for the safety of counterfeits.[2] That covers Bloom’s own products, not a look-alike dupe. Its English product guideline also calls the squishies a miscellaneous item rather than a toy and says never to give them to children under 3.

How do I clean a slow rising squishy?

Bloom’s product guideline gives no washing instructions. It says to rub a glossy surface with a dry cloth, air a strong-smelling new piece in a ventilated spot for about two days, store pieces in separate bags so they don’t stick together, and keep them out of long direct sunlight or fluorescent light, which can discolor them.[2]

Can I buy iBLOOM or PUNIKKO squishies from the USA?

iBLOOM’s shop ships overseas, with free US shipping on orders of ¥20,000 or more,[3] but most of its catalog was out of stock when we checked. TOKOTOYZ doesn’t take overseas orders,[7] so PUNIKKO from the USA means Japanese marketplace listings bought through a proxy.
