TL;DR

The cheapest Japan proxy service depends on your basket. On Mercari, where every item is billed separately, OneMall’s ¥300 per item is below the ¥350–¥800 charged by the four other services we compared, and our Yahoo Auctions fee is ¥200–¥300 per item. For several items in one store order, Buyee’s ¥500 per-order fee can cost less.

  • Listed service fees (competitor pages checked 2026-09-28): ours are ¥300 per item on most marketplaces and from ¥200 per item on Yahoo Auctions and LinkBuy; Neokyo ¥350 per item; FROM JAPAN ¥500 per item; ZenMarket ¥300–¥800 per item by store type; Buyee ¥500 per order.
  • Per-item vs per-order billing decides the winner, so price your real basket, not the headline rate.
  • International shipping is quoted separately, and box size drives it: a 1 kg box to the US quoted $22.78 by ECMS and $38.19 by DHL on 2026-10-10.
  • One consolidated box beat three parcels in the same-day quote: $26.74 instead of $57.70 by ECMS.
  • US buyers pay import duty on parcels of any value since August 29, 2025.

As of October 2026, Buyee and ZenMarket have both raised fees this year, so a fee table from 2025 is already out of date — and the cheapest headline rate is not always the cheapest bill.

Below, our team compares five well-known Japan proxy services on the same basis, prices four common baskets and a full order, and adds live US shipping quotes. If you are hunting for the best cheap Japan proxy for your next haul, this is the math to run first. New to proxies? Start with our Japan proxy service guide.

Which Japan proxy service is the cheapest in 2026?

On Japan proxy fees alone, one detail decides the answer: the billing unit. Four of the five services here, including us, bill per item; Buyee bills per order. A proxy fee is what the service adds for buying on your behalf, on top of the item price and shipping. Here is what each service lists on its own fee page.

Service Service fee and billing unit Free storage
OneMall ¥300 per item on most marketplaces (Mercari, Amazon Japan, Rakuten, ZOZOTOWN, Rakuma, Suruga-ya); Yahoo Auctions 3% per item, ¥200–¥300; LinkBuy 5% per item, ¥200–¥1,000 90 days after arrival (30 days after consolidation)
Buyee ¥500 per order since 2026-04-01; each item won at auction or bought on Mercari counts as one order, store purchases are charged per store order (Buyee fees explained) 30 days
ZenMarket ¥500 per item; ¥300 at its recommended stores; ¥800 for Mercari, Mercari Shops and Yahoo Auctions (listed as JDirectItems Auction) bids (ZenMarket fees and review) 60 days
Neokyo ¥350 per item; packing from ¥500 per shipment 45 days
FROM JAPAN ¥500 per item since 2024-07-31 See its fee page

Competitor rates come from each service’s official pages — Buyee’s fees guide and its 2026-03-13 notice, ZenMarket Fees, Neokyo Fees and the FROM JAPAN fee guide — checked 2026-09-28. They are dated source notes, not endorsements, and they change often; check the live page before you order. Our own rates are current as of October 2026.

Read the table with your basket in mind. A per-item fee is charged on every piece you buy. A per-order fee is charged once per order — but Buyee counts each item bought on Mercari[1] or won on Yahoo Auctions[2] as its own order, so for those buys it works like a per-item fee. That is why the same ¥500 can be the cheaper or the dearer rate.

Two of our rates scale with price. On Yahoo Auctions orders, our fee is (winning bid + consumption tax) × 3%, so a total under ¥6,667 pays the ¥200 minimum and anything from ¥10,000 pays the ¥300 cap. LinkBuy covers Japanese stores outside the integrated marketplaces at 5% of the item price (¥200–¥1,000); it cannot buy items that need a lottery entry, have purchase limits or require Japanese ID verification or a merchant account.

Per-item vs per-order fees: which is cheaper for your basket?

Here are the service fees alone for four common baskets, calculated from the rates above. Domestic shipping, packing, international shipping and payment fees are left out so every column stays on the same basis.

Three parcels of different sizes beside a scale and tape measure, the inputs that decide the cheapest Japan proxy service
Basket OneMall Buyee ZenMarket Neokyo FROM JAPAN
1 Mercari item ¥300 ¥500 ¥800 ¥350 ¥500
5 Mercari items from 5 sellers ¥1,500 ¥2,500 ¥4,000 ¥1,750 ¥2,500
5 items in one Rakuten shop order[3] ¥1,500 ¥500 ¥1,500–¥2,500* ¥1,750 ¥2,500
1 Yahoo Auctions win, ¥5,000 ¥200 ¥500 ¥800 — —

*¥300 per item at ZenMarket’s recommended stores, ¥500 elsewhere. “—” means the auction rate was not part of our fee check.

The pattern is easy to read. On Mercari, where every service in the table bills each item on its own, a flat ¥300 per item is the lowest of the five listed rates, and the gap grows with every item you add. When several items sit in one store order, Buyee’s per-order fee spreads ¥500 across all of them and can undercut any per-item fee. So the cheapest Japanese proxy for a Mercari haul may not be the cheapest one for a single-shop order.

How much does Japanese proxy shopping really cost?

Service fees are only the first of six layers in a proxy bill, and the only one in a headline rate.

Cost layer What it covers Our rate (October 2026) How to keep it low
Item price What the seller charges The listed Japanese price Compare listings; Mercari price negotiation on eligible items
Service fee The proxy’s purchase fee ¥300 per item on most marketplaces; from ¥200 per item on Yahoo Auctions and LinkBuy Match the billing unit to your basket
Domestic shipping Seller to our Tokyo warehouse What the seller charges; we advance it and collect it with international shipping Pick listings marked 送料込み (shipping included)
Consolidation Combining orders into one box First 6 orders free, then ¥100 per additional order Ship in batches of six orders or fewer
International shipping Tokyo warehouse to your door Live quote by chargeable weight and method One box, sized tight
Duties and taxes Charged by your country Paid by the buyer Check your item’s tariff line before ordering

We split the bill into two payments. The first, at order time, is the item price plus the service fee. The second, after your items reach the Tokyo warehouse, is international shipping plus the domestic shipping the seller charged. Both are settled in USD by Visa, Mastercard or PayPal, and points or coupons can be deducted. For line-by-line examples of our own invoice, see our fee explainer with worked invoices.

A worked example: three Mercari finds shipped to the US

  • Items: three ¥3,000 listings from three sellers, shipping included = ¥9,000.
  • Service fees: 3 × ¥300 = ¥900, so the first payment is ¥9,900.
  • Consolidation: three orders, inside the free six, so free.
  • International shipping: three 500 g parcels packed into one 30 × 25 × 10 cm box (1.5 kg) quoted $26.74 by ECMS on 2026-10-10, against $57.70 for three separate parcels.
  • Duties: assessed when the parcel enters the US.

Notice where the money moved: the three service fees total ¥900, while choosing one box instead of three cut the shipping quote by $30.96. Fees decide which proxy looks cheap; shipping often decides what you actually pay. You can try the same math on live listings in Mercari Japan search.

Which Japan proxy service has the cheapest shipping?

Proxies quote their own carrier rates, so the only fair test is the same box, to the same address, on the same day. What you control is the chargeable weight and the method. Carriers bill the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight, and we calculate volumetric weight as length × width × height (cm) ÷ 5,000, measured on the outer box the warehouse actually ships. Our volumetric weight explainer walks through the formula.

Cardboard box on a parcel scale with a tape measure, showing how Japan proxy shipping cost is weighed
Parcel (actual weight, box) Volumetric weight ECMS (10–20 days) DHL (3–7 days)
500 g, 15 × 10 × 10 cm 0.3 kg $19.23 $36.59
1 kg, 20 × 15 × 15 cm 0.9 kg $22.78 $38.19
1 kg, 50 × 40 × 15 cm 6.0 kg $61.14 $96.05
3 kg, 30 × 22 × 20 cm 2.64 kg $37.81 $58.16
3 × 500 g, consolidated into 30 × 25 × 10 cm 1.5 kg $26.74 (separately $57.70) $43.33 (separately $109.78)

Live quotes from our shipping calculator for a United States address, read 2026-10-10 at 08:09 UTC. Transit times are the carrier’s estimated average after dispatch, not a delivery promise, and your quote changes with the box the warehouse uses.

Two lessons stand out. The same 1 kg item quoted $22.78 by ECMS in a snug box and $61.14 in an oversized one — nearly triple. And one consolidated box cost less than half as much as three separate parcels, by ECMS and by DHL. For a proxy service from Japan to the US, our lane is ECMS or DHL; add 3–5 business days from seller dispatch to the Tokyo warehouse and 1–3 business days for dispatch after you pay for shipping (estimated average). Our ECMS vs DHL comparison covers the trade-off in detail.

Hidden proxy fees to check before you order

A cheap service fee can still produce an expensive bill. Check these lines on any proxy’s fee page first:

  • Storage limits. Short free storage forces you to ship before your haul is complete. We store items free for 90 days after arrival (30 days after consolidation); at the competitors in our table that list it, free storage runs 30 to 60 days.
  • Consolidation and packing fees. Some services charge per shipment to pack or combine boxes. Our first 6 orders consolidate free, then ¥100 per additional order, so 10 orders cost (10 − 6) × ¥100 = ¥400.
  • Payment and currency. We settle in USD; card payments convert at Stripe’s rate and PayPal at PayPal’s, so check your card’s foreign-transaction fee.
  • Optional services. Checks and photos are extras priced per service — a wrong or missing item check on Mercari, Rakuma and Yahoo Flea Market orders is ¥200, and unboxing photos are ¥500 or ¥700. Use them where condition matters.
  • Items that cannot ship. Aerosols, flammable liquids such as nail polish, and wet batteries are refused for international shipping, and Japan Customs sets the export rules[7]. Check before you buy.
  • Import duties. Since August 29, 2025, US-bound parcels of any value go through customs and pay applicable duties, taxes and fees — the $800 de minimis exemption no longer applies[4][5]. The amount depends on your item’s tariff classification[6]; our guide to US import duties on purchases from Japan lists rates by product category.

How to find the cheapest proxy for your order, step by step

  1. Step 1 — List your basket. Note each item, its store and its seller — the billing unit depends on all three.
  2. Step 2 — Price the proxy fees. Multiply per-item fees by items and per-order fees by orders, using the fee comparison table.
  3. Step 3 — Add domestic shipping. Read each listing’s shipping line; 送料込み means the seller pays.
  4. Step 4 — Plan consolidation. Count orders, not items: with us, the first six combine free, then ¥100 per order.
  5. Step 5 — Quote one box. Estimate the box, work out volumetric weight (L × W × H ÷ 5,000) and compare carriers.
  6. Step 6 — Add duty. Look up your item’s tariff line and budget for duty on arrival.
  7. Step 7 — Compare totals. The proxy site with the lowest total is the cheapest proxy for Japan for this basket — and the answer can change next time.

Conclusion

There is no single cheapest Japan proxy for every order; there is a cheapest one for your basket. If you buy on Mercari and Yahoo Auctions, where each item is billed on its own, a flat per-item fee keeps the fee line low; if you fill one shop order, a per-order fee can win. Either way, the larger saving in our worked example sat in shipping: a tight box and one consolidated parcel. To price your own haul, search Japanese stores on OneMall — ¥300 per item on most marketplaces and from ¥200 per item on Yahoo Auctions and LinkBuy, with the shipping quote in front of you before you pay for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Japan proxy service is the cheapest in 2026?

It depends on your basket. On the fee pages checked 2026-09-28, per-item rates were ¥350 at Neokyo, ¥500 at FROM JAPAN and ZenMarket (¥300 at ZenMarket’s recommended stores, ¥800 for Mercari and Yahoo Auctions bids), against our ¥300 on most marketplaces, while Buyee charges ¥500 per order. For Mercari items, ¥300 per item is the lowest of these; for several items in one store order, Buyee’s per-order fee can cost less.

Is a per-item or per-order fee cheaper at a Japan proxy?

Per-item fees are cheaper when every item comes from a different seller, because a per-order fee is then charged once per item anyway. Per-order fees are cheaper when you put several items into one store order. Price your actual basket both ways before you choose.

How much does a Japan proxy cost for one item?

With us, one Mercari item costs the listing price plus a ¥300 service fee, any domestic shipping the seller charges, and international shipping. On 2026-10-10, a 500 g parcel in a 15 × 10 × 10 cm box quoted $19.23 by ECMS and $36.59 by DHL to a US address, plus any import duty.

How much does package consolidation cost?

The first 6 orders consolidate free and each additional order costs ¥100, so 10 orders cost ¥400. In a same-day quote, three 500 g parcels shipped to the US as one box cost $26.74 by ECMS instead of $57.70 as three parcels.

Which Japanese proxy has the cheapest shipping?

Proxies set their own carrier rates, so compare quotes for the same box, address and day. The biggest lever is chargeable weight, the greater of actual and volumetric weight: a 1 kg item quoted $22.78 by ECMS in a 20 × 15 × 15 cm box and $61.14 in a 50 × 40 × 15 cm box on 2026-10-10.

Do I pay import duty on items from Japan in the US?

Yes. Since August 29, 2025, US-bound parcels of any value go through customs and pay applicable duties, taxes and fees — the $800 de minimis exemption no longer applies. The amount depends on the item’s tariff classification and declared value.
