• The 2026-09-29 sweep counted twenty-six PSA 10 slabs, eight PSA 9s and fifty raws in stock.

In the 2026-09-29 sweep, the VSTAR Universe Kai special art rare looked like a card the market grades hard: ¥12,500 for the cheapest gem-mint slab, ¥4,300 for a PSA 9, and fifty raw copies in stock of which the cheap ones carried wear notes. On 2026-10-25 the cheapest slab is down to ¥9,000.

This page reads in-stock Kai SAR 236/172 listings (re-checked 2026-10-25) across PSA 10, PSA 9 and raw, why the 9 sells at about half the 10, and how to buy from Japan.

What a Kai SAR 236/172 PSA 10 costs in Japan — listings re-checked 2026-10-25

The 2026-09-29 sweep found twenty-six PSA 10 slabs, eight PSA 9s and fifty raw copies in stock. The listings below were re-checked on 2026-10-25: one PSA 10 slab, one PSA 9 and two raw copies.

Prices were read from each Kai item page on 2026-10-25 — the seller’s listed price, with USD as the checkout conversion shown on the same page. Every row is a Japanese-language print of the Pokémon TCG^[5]; the condition notes quoted on this page are the seller’s Mercari condition field, translated. Seller titles are Japanese, and the tiles further down open each listing directly. Mercari permits purchases from overseas through partner proxy services^[3].

In the 2026-09-29 sweep Mercari held the entire slab ladder: ¥12,500, ¥13,000 twice, ¥14,000 and ¥14,375 from a card shop. PSA 9s were ¥4,300 and ¥4,500, and raw copies ¥2,380 with slight wear, ¥2,999 with no obvious damage and ¥3,111 with a damage note from an Akita card shop. On 2026-10-25 all four listings above are on Mercari: the ¥9,000 PSA 10 and the ¥4,360 PSA 9 both list “No obvious damage or stains”, and the raws are ¥2,988 (“Pre-owned”) and ¥3,333 (“No obvious damage or stains”). Fifty raws were in stock in September: this 2022 card has been handled for four years, and the raw market shows it.

All of the above is the Japanese-language Kai — number 236/172 in VSTAR Universe high-class pack. The English-language print of the same illustration carries a different collector number and set name, trades in a separate market, and is not covered by these prices^[5]. Promo versions and full-art variants from other sets are different cards again: match the number on the slab label before you compare a price.

Is Kai PSA 10 worth 3.01× the raw card?

A 3.01× multiple, or a ¥6,012 gap, with the PSA 9 at 48% of the 10: the market pays ¥4,640 for the last grade step. In the 2026-09-29 sweep the cheapest slab was ¥12,500 against a ¥2,380 raw, so the gem-mint premium has narrowed since. It still suggests a card that seldom comes back a 10 — many pack-fresh copies were graded after the 2022 release, and the raws left are often ones that missed PSA’s GEM MT 10 standard^[6] or were never worth submitting. A self-submission is a long shot. The ¥4,360 PSA 9 is the value; the ¥9,000 slab is the trophy.

Buy the ¥9,000 slab for gem mint. Buy the ¥4,360 PSA 9 for a graded copy at about half the price. The ¥3,333 raw, listed as “No obvious damage or stains”, is for the binder.

Getting a Kai SAR 236/172 shipped from Japan

The purchase runs the same for the slab or a raw. Step by step:

1. Step 1 — Open the listing on OneMall. Every tile below links straight to the OneMall item page for that exact copy, so you skip the Japanese-only Mercari app entirely.
2. Step 2 — Check the slab label in the photos. Read the collector number on the PSA label before you pay; the same Pokémon often exists at several numbers in the same set.
3. Step 3 — Add authentication if the seller offers it. For raw cards on Mercari, tick Mercari official authentication (OneMall submits the item; Mercari official issues the conclusion; OneMall does not guarantee authenticity) at checkout (+¥1,700) where the seller has enabled it^[1][2]; Mercari official issues its conclusion before the card leaves Japan, and OneMall does not guarantee authenticity.
4. Step 4 — Pay the first invoice. Item price plus the service fee (¥300 per item on most marketplaces; from ¥200 per item on Yahoo Auctions and LinkBuy) — international shipping is a separate second payment once the card is weighed at the warehouse.
5. Step 5 — Consolidate and ship. Cards sit in free storage for 90 days after arrival (30 days after consolidation), the first six orders consolidate free, and one padded parcel to the US goes out by ECMS or DHL.
