Why it ran up in the first place
Three things stacked: Mega Gengar is a fan-favourite Pokémon, the MEGA Dream ex high-class pack put it at the top of a Special Art Rare pull table, and the set was new. Pull rates that low plus a character with that much recognition is the standard recipe for a launch spike — the ¥165,250 high in the sales record is what that spike looked like.
